No-bake protein balls

These no-bake protein balls are oats, peanut butter, honey and two scoops of whey, mixed in one bowl and rolled by hand. The batch makes 12 balls with about 7 g of protein each, an easy snack between meals or before the gym.

Peanut butter, chocolate and vanilla whey all work well. The macros are worked out from Fuel Sync's whey label and standard values for the other ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 scoops (60 g) Fuel Sync whey protein, peanut butter, chocolate or vanilla
  • 80 g rolled oats
  • 100 g smooth peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp (40 g) honey
  • 2 to 4 tbsp milk

Optional (not in the macros): 20 g dark chocolate chips.

Method

  1. Mix the oats and whey in a bowl.
  2. Add the peanut butter and honey and stir until everything is coated. It will look dry and crumbly.
  3. Add the milk a tablespoon at a time, mixing well, until the mixture holds together when you squeeze it.
  4. Roll into 12 balls of about 27 g each.
  5. Chill for 30 minutes to firm up.

Tips and swaps

  • Too sticky? Add a spoonful of oats. Too dry? Add milk a teaspoon at a time.
  • Swaps: almond butter or tahini instead of peanut butter, and carob syrup instead of honey.
  • In the Cyprus heat they soften within a few hours out of the fridge. For the gym bag, take them from the freezer: they thaw by the time you need them.
  • Storage: in an airtight box in the fridge for up to a week, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
